Good writers are great readers. One can't exist well, without the other. If you want a child to be a better writer, teach him to read. If you want someone to read better, teach them to write well. I have been blessed with teachers and people in my life who encouraged my writing and reading with their financial support, opportunities and sharing of great literature.
5 Minutes for Books is asking what is on my nightstand. Here is a picture with 12 books currently being read.

Looks like a lot of good books. If you haven't read "If You Want to Walk on Water" by Ortberg, I'd suggest it. It is one of my personal favorites.

I find I have little time to read these days, I spend a lot of time online reading, more informational stuff. I used to have a large book collection but after moving so much these last years, gave away the collection to friends who really wanted them. :)

I recently finished Certain Girls. It was not too bad. If you have not read any of Jennifer Weiner's other books I would really suggest reading them; I think I enjoyed most of them a little more than this one. :)

Someone else mentioned the Ortberg "Walk on Water" book; it's my favorite nonfiction. What did you think of The Shack?

Thanks for linking up to 5 Minutes for Books. I've enjoyed many of the books you listed and on your sidebar.

I also read The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin. When my husband worked at Crown Financial Ministries, he heard Jordan Rubin speak and brought home the book. I noticed you also read Francine Rivers - love her books. Have you ever read Jane Kirkpatrick? All Together In One Place was my favorite out of a series but I've enjoyed all her books. http://www.jkbooks.com/
