Blood Diamond

This post is part of a Movie Madness Carnival at Daily Mish Mash.

Blood Diamond is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Last Wednesday I wrote about how I regularly pray for every pair of hands that have touched my diamond ring, hands possibly with blood on them.

For those looking to purchase environmentally sound diamonds and jewelry, c5 company offers an alternative to the traditional industry.  c5 stands for Cut, Carat, Clarity, Color and Consciousness.  Founder Meghan Connolly Haupt began c5 to provide consumers with different answers to questionable gem and metal mining practices. Visit their site to read their full mission statement.

For now I'll leave you with this statistic provided by Ms. Haupt.  I think you'll find it as staggering as I do.

The Democratic Republic of Congo produces more than $2B of diamonds annually, but 90% of it's population of 60 million live in poverty.

I loved this movie. It was difficult to watch at times (esp the child soldier parts) but it is such an important movie. I thought Leo was fantastic in it!

I just added your post to the links at the Carnival. Thanks for participating!

I loved this movie too. It is so hard to believe that this kind of events really happen in the world.

I just recently watched this movie. I had a hard time with all of violence, but it was a very moving film with excellent acting.
